Local Village Network is a UK-registered youth charity focused on tackling network poverty – the lack of access to positive role models, professional connections and opportunities that can limit social mobility for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.
LVN works directly with schools and communities in London, delivering mentoring and employability programmes that help students build confidence, develop essential workplace skills and broaden their aspirations.
At the heart of LVN’s work is the belief that who you know can be just as important as what you know. By connecting young people with professionals from different roles and industries, LVN helps bridge the gap between education and the world of work.
Our partnership centres on LVN’s Amplify Me mentoring programme – a structured, school-based employability and group mentoring initiative. The programme combines confidence building, skills development and real-world career exposure, with sessions led by LVN facilitators and supported by corporate volunteers.
Across several weekly sessions, our colleagues mentor students in small groups, share their career journeys, and support activities focused on networking, communication, public speaking and understanding workplace expectations.
Each programme concludes with an office visit, giving students first-hand insight into a professional environment and the chance to practice their skills through presentations, networking and speed mentoring. Our impact so far since the partnership began:
- Run five LVN mentoring programmes
- Seen over 40 colleagues give their time to mentor young people
- Supported over 100 students across two London schools
Our most recent Spring mentoring programme wrapped up with a fantastic visit from students to our London office. The day included speed mentoring, student presentations and opportunities to meet even more of the team. The experience provided students with meaningful opportunities to develop confidence, employability skills and career awareness, while giving our colleagues the chance to see first-hand the impact of their involvement.
We can’t wait to work with LVN again soon.
